On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, De Run 1000 was officially opened in Veldhoven in a festive event attended by all involved parties. This innovative building complex on the ASML campus stands as a symbol of sustainability, digitalization, and smart technology. Notably, the complex is located on historic grounds—precisely where ASML’s very first building was inaugurated in 1985.
De Run 1000 consists of four robust office buildings, interconnected by a transparent and inviting plaza building. Together, they accommodate approximately 4,000 employees and form the vibrant core of this part of the campus. The buildings are embedded in a newly elevated campus landscape, situated on a raised "field" in the Dommel landscape. This area has been sown with a mix of native flowers, giving it a natural and seasonal character. This landscape-driven approach enhances the regional identity and creates a pleasant, biodiverse working environment.
The surrounding landscape has been thoughtfully designed to encourage active use by employees. During lunch breaks, people can take walks around the site, participate in organized or spontaneous outdoor activities, or relax on the inviting outdoor terrace. A walking route winds through various nature-inclusive elements such as eco-totems, benches, wadi crossings with bridges, and a terrace designed in the iconic “wafer” shape—a symbol of precision and motion in ASML’s field of work. A special resting point along the route is the memorial bench, a place we specifically designed as a tribute to life and the joy within it—a space for reflection, connection, and contemplation.
With this setup, De Run 1000 offers not only an inspiring workplace but also a healthy, future-oriented living environment. The complex has rightly been awarded both the BREEAM Excellent and WELL Platinum certifications.
In 2019, Karres en Brands, together with SmitsRinsma, was commissioned to develop a strategic vision for the Green Campus and to design the layout plan for the new campus spaces. We are proud to partner with ASML in contributing to a future-proof working environment where technological innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.
