The ‘Kansen in Kernen’ project located in Feanwâlden, Friesland, was officially concluded and opened to the public on Friday 24 September. Our project park and park-and-ride facility in Feanwâlden was the last in line in the ‘Kansen in Kernen’ project, which in recent years had redeveloped six villages, starting with the ‘Sintrale As’ (central axis).
Our project is now complete – five years after the construction of the central axis in Feanwâlden. The daily stream of 15,000 vehicles that once went straight through the centre of Feanwâlden has made way for a green space with places to play and relax: the ‘Spoarpark’. Connecting the new station area – the ‘transferium’ – with the village, this wonderful project was very ambitious from the start, but together we made it a reality. Alongside returning the space between Feanwâlden and the railway to the core of the village, we managed to upgrade Feanwâlden station to a park-and-ride ‘transferium’ with all the associated amenities. Feanwâlden is now a transport hub for the surrounding villages, offering services to Leeuwarden, Groningen, and the rest of the Netherlands.
Many people turned out for the activity-packed and celebratory opening of the Kansen in Kernen project in Feanwâlden’s Spoarpark Feanwâlden – what a fantastic start! Although still somewhat bare, the park’s scale means it’s ideal for hosting larger events. The planting will be completed in November, so that the park will come into its own by next spring.
