The Municipal Council of Hoorn gave the green light for the development of the Pelmolenpad residential area. This is a first step in the realisation of our master plan 'Poort van Hoorn'. Approximately 1,700 new homes will be built in and around Hoorn station and the city has the ambition to build 6,000 new homes in the coming years, many of them in the outskirts of the city centre.
There will be 610 sustainable homes, 40% of which will be social rentals and owner-occupied homes. Parking does not take place on the street but in the two parking hubs. This allows the residential area to be designed as a car-free environment with an abundance of greenery and where cyclists and pedestrians are given ample space. This goal is prescribed in the image quality plan for the area that also suggests what the buildings should look like in the future. In addition to the urban plan, Karres en Brands is currently working on the design of the public space of this progressive residential area.
In collaboration with Housing Corporation Intermaris, BPD Area Development and the Municipality of Hoorn.
