The Defense Island is a former military site that is being transformed into a residential area on the edge of the center in Woerden. The 2nd phase of the development is in full swing. In the re-development of the area, valuable industrial buildings are preserved and equipped with new functions such as housing and horeca. The island is being developed into a residential area with characteristic, sturdy buildings and a green character.

Karres en Brands has been working on the design of the urban plan, public space and guidance of the architects since 2011. The houses are designed by Zecc Architecten, Braaksma & Roos and Groosman.
