Karres and Brands, in collaboration with the Berlin agency ISSS research | architecture | urbanism, has won third prize in the competition for the transformation of the Dempsey barracks in Paderborn, Germany. The competition focuses on transforming, renovating and densifying the former barracks structure, focusing on an urban, sustainable living environment. The strategy includes the revision of the infrastructure system in combination with a relatively dense building structure and the corridor-like street spaces, leading to an attractive city district. The jury praises this fundamentally sustainable, innovative approach with a third prize.
